Italy

For me, this was easily the BEST trip I have ever done. I saw things and stood in places that I never would have imagined that I would see or do.

• Venezia (Venice), the place where Marco Polo was from, saw where his house used to be. rode in a gondola
  
• Assissi, the home of St. Francis of whom this prayer is attributed, beautiful little town.
  

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

• Firenze (Florence), Leonardo da Vinci grew up here, Michelangelo's David is here, although we didn't get to see it (the museum was closed on Monday) the Santa Croce Church contains the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli, Rossini, and more recently Enrico Fermi and Guglielmo Marconi
• Pisa, the Tower
• Roma (Rome), the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, the Vatican, the Pieta (it took three tries and two days to get in here because it was Easter week and the Pope was in that area so they closed it off. For security reasons, they don't post a schedule) and Sistine Chapel ceiling by Michelangelo. The Vatican houses so many galleries and works of art and artifacts that our guide said in order to see it all would require four full days if you only spent 20 seconds on each thing.
