Pretty much everywhere we have been in Europe has cobblestones. Usually laid in this pattern, or something very similar. It can kind of make you dizzy if you look at it wrong while walking on it.
Occaisionally they will lay them out straight like this. What was really interesting to me was the way they put the crosswalk in, using a different colored stone, not paint. They all appear to be cut out of granite, or some other feldspathic rock. It is a surprisingly smooth surface if laid out right.
Occaisionally, you might find cobble stones like this, it's much more uneven and I don't think it holds up to modern vehicle traffic as well.
