JAWS

For the last week or so in the Library, Vickie has been growing this shark from the Steve Spangler Science Conference that she and Jeremy went to. Each class measured, traced on graph paper, and predicted how big the shark would get.
She then put it into water and over a period of several days it got bigger, and bigger.

This is after a couple of days. 14.5 inches

And this is after 5 days. 17 inches
The shark is made from this special polymer (the same stuff they use as absorbent in baby diapers) and it soaks up water and expands. Soaks up is the correct term, because science doesn't suck.

I believe that they gor that big. Have you ever seen a diaper blow up in a swimming pool or just right after? It's a lot of mess to clean up.

Mine got to exactly 17 inches too. Now we're watching it dehydrate.

Yes, they are watching in the library too. Mom had them make predictions on what would happen after they took it out of the water.
1. It would shrink
2. It would stay the same
3. It would get BIGGER
Mom said, "OK........."
