Oregon Cave

The cave was really pretty cold, they said that air in the cave was the AVERAGE of the temperature of the area, and doesn't fluctuate much. I think the temperature in the cave was in the low 40's.

The Oregon Cave was discovered in the late 1800s. A guy was out hunting with his dog and the dog chased a bear into the cave. The guy was a little nuts (or really liked his dog, or had a death wish or something) because he had like 7 matches and he burned them one at a time going into the cave after his dog until he ran out of matches. He got about 15 minutes in and when all his matches were used up, it took him three hours to find his way back out. Fortunately, no bear. The dog showed up later.

If you click on this one you will get a bigger picture. The ceiling here is covered with what are called soda straws. Little stalagtites starting, maybe a few hundred years old....or thousands...... the water flows down through a hole in the middle of the little baby stalagtite.

This was probably the biggest room in the cave, the color is off a bit, the flash wasn't big enough for the cave and I tried to lighten it.
