The new Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge has been open for almost a year now, and today we finally went out to drive over it and see it. When they funded or paid for the bridge, they must have run out of money before they made the directions and signs. After we left Boulder City and approached the bridge, we ended up on the old road to the dam instead of the road that goes over the bridge. Then when we got on the right road finally, we were almost all the way over the bridge before we realized that we were even on the bridge. All the concrete dividers keep you from seeing anything from your vehicle on the bridge. We did see some people walking on the dam side of the bridge on the way back.
You can't access the dam from the Arizona side anymore. You also can't access the walkway on the bridge from the Arizona side. So we turned around and went back. They still check vehicles going to the dam, so we asked them at the checkpoint how to get onto the bridge and they told us how to get there. Along the walk way, they have these plaques that show the bridge construction.
Now you can get these cool pictures of the dam that you used to only be able to get from a helicopter or plane.
